With spring break approaching, I would like to remind all of you to be safe due to the heightened risk of people being involved in drunk driving accidents or accidents caused by those who are texting while driving. Whether you are the driver, the passenger, or a bystander, statistics show that every fifteen minutes, someone dies in an accident related to driving while intoxicated or being distracted while texting and driving. With that being said, the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, will be sponsoring an innovative activity to raise awareness on these dangers and we are encouraging students from various organizations to participate.
Advisors of Blue and White, The Daily Tarheel, STV, WXYC Radio, and Junior Playmakers will be notified with additional details and we hope that they will be able to encourage students to be a part of what we have planned. We will also be in partnership with campus police, the Chapel Hill police and fire departments, N.C. Memorial Hospital, the District Attorney’s Office, Campus Health Services, and members of the community will also participate in the activity.
It is our goal to utilize the strength, talent and resources of our school, local businesses, and the community to educate all of you on the dangers of drinking and driving or texting while driving. We are looking forward to this activity and we will inform everyone on different ways they can participate when it comes closer to time.
Sincerely,
Winston B. Crisp, J.D.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
